We Only Need to Look

I really am patriotic- so much so that in HS I was voted “Most Patriotic” and it was not a joke. I know all the words the the Star-Spangled Banner (all four verses). I know that despite the evils that have been inflicted on minority groups (women included), that this country has the ability to [...]

American Politics Are Affecting Our Health

Let’s show this one to those who wish us to believe that the American Health Care System is so much better than in Europe and that by providing socialized care for all Americans, this superior health care will drop.
According to Social Science Quarterly, Americans have stopped growing.  Apparently, Americans used to be the tallest in [...]

“Spin” Shows Us How The Media Manipulates The American Public

The film “Spin” by Brian Springer is a little known gem that was made in the 1990’s.  Springer is an artist who, according to Brasscheck TV, “spent a year scouring the airwaves with a satellite dish grabbing back channel news feeds not intended for public consumption.”
Apparently, satellite dishes pick up streaming television that is normally [...]

My Own Mother Lacks Respect for Educators

I had a conversation with my mom yesterday that proved that the teacher-bashing tactics of Chancellor Klein are wreaking havoc on public perception of educators. It was, to say the least, the most disturbing conversation that i had in a long time.
Mom: Your school’s graduation rates are low and that proves that the teachers are [...]

Early Hollywood Depictions Find Their Way Into Modern Film and No One Seems to Care

I have been teaching three summer school courses focusing on the Origins of Black-American Stereotypes and Their Use in Modern Society. Do Children Become Adults?

Apparently, we haven’t decided if this is a fact yet.
NYC Educator points out that DC Public Schools Chancellor, Michelle Rhee, is helping to eradicate adults’ rights and establish future patterns which will ensure that the average working person faces even dimmer prospects.  This is all done, of course, under the guise of helping children.
NYC Educator asks [...]

Educational Reformers Celebrate “The Bell Curve”

Who can forget the infamous book entitled “The Bell Curve” by Richard J. Herrnstein and American Enterprise Institutes’ Charles Murray, which made the assertion that intelligence is a predictor of income and success. The book also argued that some differences between racial groups has to do with intelligence, citing lower test scores among African [...]

Nobody Cares

I don’t usually find my nail salon to be a source of stimulating conversation, but yesterday was different.
I was sitting in the pedicure chair, reading my book and looking up now and then to people watch. I noticed a vivacious and chatty group of women, who ranged in age from late twenties to mid [...]

Principal Apologizes for Testing

Amazing story at EdNotes about a principal who felt compelled to apologize for all of the time and money spent on testing and “For making his focus as a principal no longer helping his staff teach students but helping them teach test indicators.”
Wow.

US Embassy Workers Forbidden To See Obama

Apparently, the United States Embassy forbade its workers in Berlin from hearing Barack Obama speak. According to the Washington Post, embassy officials instructed workers not to attend on the grounds that the rally was “partisan political activity”.
Hmm…
What do you think they were afraid of?
